The ICRA Method started in 2000 as a theoretical discussion resulting from doubts arising from clinical cases in patients with pragmatic language compromises. It was developed by speech and language pathologist María del Valle Abraham and professor of Language and Literature Rosa María Brenca, a specialist in Pragmatic Linguistics.
It was gradually transformed into an interdisciplinary work in which the authors focused their interest on giving a new significance to outstanding concepts of pragmatic linguistics and language philosophy for their clinical application. It implied a review of the current approach in connection with language pathology and its relationship with pragmatics, that is, with the use of nonverbal and verbal language in communicative contexts.
Nowadays, the ICRA Method is a clinical line of research of the pragmatic aspect of language, within the Neurolinguistic Area of Speech and Language Pathology of the Department of Otolaryngology at Hospital Italiano Buenos Aires, with projects in conjunction with CONICET’s IMTIB Institute.
